Southeast proves mettle at Kelly Walsh Invite

CASPER – Southeast High School tracksters proved once again that they are up to the challenge of competing against much larger schools while filling their bag with hardware at the Kelly Walsh Invite on Monday, April 29.

The Lady Cyclones and Cyclones broke into the top eight in multiple events containing dozens of entires and several advanced to the top three.

The track team competes in field events at Pine Bluffs on Thursday before preparing for the SEWAC Championships in Glenrock on Saturday.

“The kids competed well against some good competition at Casper,” coach Jeff Fullmer said. “We are continuing to fine-tune some things to get geared up for SEWAC, regionals and state.”

Girls top eight

Senior Tylar Stoddard advanced to second place in the triple jump, hitting a mark of 33 feet. Freshman Bailey Mehling took fifth place in the event, clearing 31 feet, 8 inches, while junior Angie Logsdon placed seventh at 30-06 ¼.

In hurdles, junior Taylar Hansen scooped up hardware in both the 100-meters, placing second with a time of 17.24 seconds and the 300-meters, finishing fourth at 54.91 seconds.

Clocking the 800-meters in at 2 minutes, 33.03 seconds, sophomore Kaycee Kosmicki placed third.

In throwing events, senior Harper Boche led the Southeast pack in the discus with a fourth-place finish measuring 111-10. Boche also garnered fifth place in the shot with a toss of 36-05 ½.

Freshman Haylee Ekwall obtained third place in the shot put with a mark of 36-08 ½. Senior Kodi Andersen earned eighth place in the discus, posting a mark of 100-10.

Mehling snapped up fifth place in the 400-meters, timing in at 1:04.13.

Senior Sasha Haines pulled into eighth place in the 100-meters at 13.33 seconds.

Logsdon represented Southeast in the pole vault and came in eighth place with a mark of 8-06.

The 4x100-meter relay team – Stoddard, Mehling, sophomore Molly Hasbargen and Haines – snagged fourth place at 54.17 seconds.

Boys top eight

The 4x400-meter relay team captured fourth place. Sophomore T.J. Moats, junior William Knowlton, freshman Trevor Jolovich and senior Wyatt Gladson clocked the event in at 4:01.77.
