CHEYENNE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie track team battled windy weather and tough opponents from 3A and 4A programs to capture hardware at the invitational hosted by Cheyenne Central High School on April 29.

The boys’ team captured third place, posting 86 points, while the girls placed fourth at 93 points.

Senior Izzy Spears trounced the competition in the girls’ discus. Spears advanced to the No. 1 spot with a toss of 99 feet, 3 inches, finishing with more than one foot to spare over the runner-up, Cheyenne Central’s Audrey Friedlan.

Clocking the boys’ 110-meter hurdles in at 16.33 seconds, junior Louden Bremer garnered gold. The neck-and-neck race for the top two spots came down to the wire, with Bremer crossed the finish line 0.03 seconds ahead of Cheyenne Central’s Logan Kramer.

Two boys’ relay teams snagged gold. Bremer, sophomore Brady Cook, senior Nolan Spears and junior Brody Roberts pulled into first place in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay at 3 minutes, 50.17 seconds.

“It was a blustery day in Cheyenne, but we competed pretty well,” coach Mike Lashley said. “We were able to add a few more state prequalifiers, including six of the seven relays we ran. I really like where we are as a team. The goal now is to score as many points as possible over the next three weeks. It will be fun to see how things unfold at SEWAC, regionals and state.”
