Torrington Main Street on path to revitalization Modified: Tuesday, Mar 17th, 2009
The Torrington Merchant’s Association met Tuesday morning to discuss a trip four of the group took to the Main Street Program Conference in Chicago, Ill. As an Aspiring Community, Torrington is new to the Main Street Program, which helps revitalize downtown areas. According to Goshen County Chamber of Commerce executive director Rhonda Schulte, she and local business owner Roger Huckfeldt attended a pre-conference prior to the Main Street Program Conference, held from March 1-4. Schulte and Huckfeldt were joined at the conference by Randy and Barbara Adams. Barbara Adams is on the board of directors for Our Clothing Store and Randy Adams is a member of the Torrington City Council. “There was so much enthusiasm,” Huckfeldt said of the conference. “Towns smaller than Torrington have been in the program for years. The way we have done business in the past is changing dramatically. Communication is the biggest part - communication with partners, customers and other communities.” For the complete article see the 03-13-2009 issue.
