Graveside services for Stella Miller, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the Mitchell Valley Cemetery with Pastor Richard Reisig officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, July 9 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Jones Mortuary.

Stella died July 5, 2009 at Heritage Estates in Gering.

Memorials may be made to either the Lyman Volunteer Fire Department or the Hawk Springs Volunteer Fire Department Her obituary may be viewed at www.jones-mortuary.com, where condolences may be made. Jones Mortuary in Mitchell is assisting the family with arrangements.

Stella was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Lyman, Neb. She is the daughter of Harry and Sarah Olive (West) Richardson. Her father was a section foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad in various towns in Nebraska and Wyoming and in Julesburg, Colo. When her father retired, the family moved to Los Angeles, Calif.

She graduated from Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra, Calif. Stella worked at Union Station and California Hardware before marrying George R. Miller of Lyman in 1945. She became a full time homemaker.

The family farmed in the Hawk Springs and Lyman areas for many years. From 1962 until 1969 the family lived in Riverton, where George worked for the uranium mines while Stella worked for J.C. Penney. They moved back to farm in Hawk Springs in 1969. George passed away in 1999. In 2003, Stella moved to Torrington.

She is survived by her son, Ross Miller and his friend Lois Kaufman of Torrington; her daughter, Leniegh and her husband Robert Schrinar of Riverton; three sisters, Agnes Provance of Stockton, Calif., Ada Meyers of Emmett, Idaho, and Lois Ham of Palm Desert, Calif.; a granddaughter, Lynn and her husband Jimi Marshall of Lemoore, Calif.; a grandson, Randy and his wife Carly Schrinar of Riverton; two great-grandchildren, Ashni Marshall and Brooklyn Schrinar; and several nieces, nephews and first cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; three brothers, Ross, Dale and Neal; and two sisters, Florence and Dorothy.
