Your identity is one of a kind - unless it gets swiped.
Identity theft is becoming more common these days. To help Goshen County residents know the risks involved and precautions to take, the Community Education and Outreach office at Eastern Wyoming College hosted a luncheon seminar Tuesday on identity theft. The guest speakers for the seminar were Torrington Police Chief Billy Janes and Detective Doug Weeks.
According to Janes, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is now the focal point, or lead agency, compiling information on identity theft.
“It used to be that people would contact their bank or the police department when they feared identity theft,” Janes said. “Now the problem has become much more complex and reaches into many different areas. The Federal Trade Commission is the best source for help if personal information is stolen or to clean up your identity.”
